Human trafficking suspect caught transporting migrants in Libya

In continuation of our operations to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking, the Investigations and Evidence Gathering Department monitored a suspected Libyan national residing in the city of Zawya, approximately 48 km west of the capital, Tripoli. It was determined that he belonged to a criminal gang involved in bringing, transporting, and harboring illegal migrants.

The suspect was caught red-handed transporting three illegal migrants from Tripoli to Zawya. The investigation led to the identification of the gang’s members, one of whom was arrested. The search for the gang’s leader is ongoing.

This gang operates in cooperation with partners in Pakistan. Each migrant pays $3,500 and is brought to Libya via Benina International Airport. The gang then gathers and houses them in Tripoli, from where they are sent on dangerous boats to European Union countries.

Legal measures have been taken, and the arrested individuals have been referred to the competent prosecution for further action.
